Last updated 2026-11-08 — The 2020 International Sports & Sports Health (Beijing) Exhibition will be held from August 28 to 30, 2020, at the China International Exhibition Center [Jing’an Zhuang Hall] in Beijing. The exhibition content has been comprehensively upgraded to create a high-level feast of ideas.

Year after year, guarding the ancient villages with white walls and black tiles, a unique spring feast is about to begin. This spring, I want to go to Jing County and listen to the heartwarming stories of this small town.

Want to See You: Zhaji

The ancient village of Zhaji is located between Huangshan and Jiuhua Mountain, in southern Anhui, in the northern mountainous area of the Huangshan Mountain Range, on the north shore of Taihu Lake, at the junction of Jing County, Taihu, and Qingyang, within the territory of Jing County. The village is very large, covering an area of more than 20 square kilometers. It was first built in the early Sui Dynasty, flourished in the Song and Yuan Dynasties, reached its peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and declined in the late Qing Dynasty and modern times. It has a history of more than 1,380 years.

“Ten miles of Zhaji Village, nine miles of mist, three streams converge among thousands of homes; ancestral halls, pavilions, and towers cast shadows, small bridges over flowing water in an apricot blossom sky.” This poem vividly depicts the scenery of the ancient village of Zhaji. An ancient town that stretches for ten miles and retains architectural styles from several eras is unique in the country. Its beauty through the ages allows one to witness the glory of China’s past and present.

The profound and unique architectural culture, the picturesque landscape, and the still-preserved simple rural charm give Zhaji a distinctive allure. Watching the leisurely and carefree villagers, one can’t help but marvel: what an ancient village exuding a classic and elegant atmosphere.

Want to See You: Huangtian

The ancient village of Huangtian is located at the western foot of Huangzishan Mountain in Jing County, Xuancheng City, Anhui Province. It dates back to the Jiayou period of the Northern Song Dynasty and has a history of a thousand years. The entire village covers an area of 1.5 square kilometers, nestled among green mountains and clear waters. It houses well-preserved ancient residential buildings from the Qing Dynasty, which are precious historical and cultural heritage. The village has seen little artificial development and largely retains its original style.

The architecture of Huangtian combines the grandeur of imperial architecture, the style of Suzhou gardens, and the characteristics of Huizhou-style buildings. The village lanes crisscross, with open ditches and hidden channels interconnected, and flowing water running through the village. Among them, the unique cultural building of Yangchuanwu, the traditional building material technique of water-milled floral bricks, and the feng shui culture of the natural water entrance of the ancient village constitute the three major architectural features of Huangtian.

The overall housing structures here are all relocated and rebuilt from century-old houses. Building within the scenery shows the utmost respect for the originals, preserving every bit of their original charm. Wrapped within century-old buildings full of Huizhou elements, you breathe the same air and absorb the essence and spirit of the place.
