Despite the ongoing controversy over the undergrounding of Shilin Night Market, Taipei City remains confident and announced on the 30th that it will launch the "Baihui Banquet," a lavish feast in September, aiming to compete head-to-head with the "Millennium Banquet" of Ningxia Night Market. Each table costs NT$3,000 and includes 15 classic night market snacks such as braised pork rice, oyster omelet, and stir-fried squid. It offers an alternative experience of Taiwan’s unique banquet culture.

Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin said that the 94 vendors at Shilin Night Market are about to relocate and reopen. Lin Tianlai, president of Shilin Night Market, came up with the idea of the "Baihui Banquet" event to showcase the most representative foods of Shilin Night Market. In the future, after relocating to the new market, all vendors will take turns updating the menu, fostering healthy competition and promoting night market cuisine. He hopes that through everyone's joint efforts, the Baihui Banquet will become a signature feature of Shilin Night Market and bring more vibrancy to the Shilin District.
