Starting today (the 15th) and running for three consecutive days, from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM daily, the “Festival Home-Style Rice Food Carnival” will be grandly held around the Yuanshan Corridor next to Yuanshan MRT Station and the Taipei Expo Food Mall. This time, the cooked food section brings together numerous stores, offering anti-inflation treasures that can be bought for just 20NT, including Songmai oil rice from Yongle Street, Auntie’s Wild Ginger Flower Zongzi, Amis-style bamboo tube rice, and rice balls from the King of Soy Milk in Northern Taiwan — all for just 20NT.

The “Themed Cooked Food Section” features 40 stalls, including the nationally renowned Prince Oil Rice, as well as locally distinctive offerings such as Auntie’s Wild Ginger Flower Zongzi, Baolai Full Moon Oil Rice, Rokuban Roast Rice Balls, Tainan’s traditional Saltwater Zongzi, the delicate sushi from Taipei Mizu Japanese Cuisine, and Hakka Zongzi from Hualien Jixiang. Additionally, the “Rice Souvenir Gifts” and “Agricultural Specialty Products” sections include packaged rice gifts from Yunlin Erhlin and Taichung Tanzi, as well as Taikeng No. 9 Rice from Chiayi Dalin. There are also 60 stalls in total featuring fruits such as peaches from Lala Mountain and pears from Taichung Dongshi.

The carnival also invites indigenous vendors to showcase native cuisine. (Photo provided by Taipei City -)

The carnival also offers less commonly encountered indigenous rice dishes in daily life, including the “Indigenous Flavors Pavilion” showcasing Amis-style bamboo tube rice, the “Tabalong” cuisine featuring indigenous rice cakes made with white glutinous rice, the unique millet banana rice from the Taroko tribe at “Original Flavor Workshop,” the Paiwan tribe’s cinavu (similar to zongzi), and the Rukai tribe’s millet porridge. Visitors can also purchase wild vegetables and fruits from tribal villages, as well as high-quality rice from the mountainous regions. Tomorrow and the day after (June 16 & 17), the “Taipei Sushi Grand Prix” and “Taipei Zongzi Grand Prix” championship battles will take place respectively.
