The Dragon Boat Festival is approaching. This year, besides eating zongzi and watching dragon boat races, Lukang Wenwu Temple will hold a Sacred Lot Toss event to give away gold ingots and gold leaf zongzi from June 16–17 and June 23–24, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. During the event period, visitors who toss three sacred lots at the Wen Shrine can win one gold leaf zongzi, while those who toss three sacred lots at the Wu Shrine can win one gold ingot. Participation is free and open to all on-site.

Lukang Wenwu Temple consists of the Wen Shrine, the Wu Shrine, and the Wenkai Academy. The Wen Shrine enshrines the God of Literature, Wenchang Dijun, while the Wu Shrine enshrines the God of Martial Valor, Guan Shengdijun. These have long been important sites for locals to pray for academic success, career advancement, and protection from misfortune. In conjunction with the Lukang Dragon Boat Festival, Wenwu Temple is launching the “Sacred Lot Toss – Win Gold Ingot and Gold Leaf Zongzi” event. The gold ingot is believed to bring wealth and prosperity, while the gold leaf zongzi is said to ensure exam success and academic progress.

The Lukang Dragon Boat Festival series runs from now until June 24 and is a major annual event in Lukang. In addition to the Sacred Lot Toss and giveaways, Wenwu Temple will also host a variety of activities during the festival period, including “Poetry, Music & Art Dragon Boat Festival,” “2012 Flip, Toss, Roll, Kick & Challenge Five Hurdles Dragon Boat Festival,” “Casting Lots to Become the Top Scholar,” “Official Promotion Board Game,” and “Sail Car Experience.” Among them, “Official Promotion Board Game” is an ancient Chinese children’s game where participants spin a four-sided top engraved with characters representing talent, virtue, merit, and good deeds. Based on the symbol the top lands on, players move their pieces and receive rewards or penalties—similar to the well-known Monopoly game.
