Huashan 1914 Cultural and Creative Industrial Park is a microcosm of Taiwan’s liquor industry, bearing witness to the history of state-run alcohol from the Japanese colonial period through to the post-war era. Closely tied to the lives of ordinary people, it holds unique historical value and significance in Taiwan’s modern industrial development. In July this year, Huashan newly opened the “Red Brick Hexagonal Courtyard” and launched its first curated exhibition — “Ordinary. Beauty.” This marks a symbolic starting point themed around “uniquely Taiwanese, one of a kind” cultural and creative talents and works, presenting the viewpoint that the more local something is, the more internationally appealing it becomes.

The content displayed in the “Ordinary. Beauty” exhibition centers on everyday objects that are omnipresent in our daily lives. Through the lens of curation, it does not emphasize brand stories or design awards. Instead, it gathers ordinary household items stacked in hardware stores, grocery shops, or even supermarkets. These objects are not boosted by flashy branding, nor are they masterpieces by renowned designers. The focus lies on the storytelling quality of the objects themselves, showcasing the simple beauty that emerges from functional design refined over time. Rather than presenting a curatorial concept, the exhibition serves as a gentle reminder of a way of life, shining a spotlight directly on these everyday items. It encourages viewers to see them from a fresh perspective and recognize that these unassuming, ordinary objects can be just as beautiful as those designed by famous names.

Viewing this exhibition is like an unexpected encounter with aesthetic sensibility in daily life, allowing people to better understand and connect with the omnipresence of “Ordinary. Beauty.” We share the beauty we’ve worked hard to uncover or discovered by chance, hoping everyone can thus embark on their own journey of discovering “Ordinary. Beauty” in their daily lives.

Beyond offering a moving experience, it also enriches everyday life. In addition to exhibiting everyday objects collected from all over Taiwan that embody the essence of “Ordinary. Beauty,” Huashan has also invited the VVG team to plan and launch a limited-time concept store exclusive to the exhibition — “VVG at Home X Ordinary. Beauty.”

The limited-time concept store will be open for one month, selling “Ordinary. Beauty” everyday items from Japan, Hong Kong, Denmark, Germany, and other places, as well as original Taiwanese products enhanced by design. It highlights how, despite differences in Eastern and Western lifestyles and the variety of everyday objects, they all share the same sincere and simple “Ordinary. Beauty” quality. “VVG at Home X Ordinary. Beauty” limited-time concept store.
