Pingxi Creative Sky Lantern Submission Contest – Grand Prize of NT$30,000, Registration Now Open

As one of the traditional folk culture events, the “Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival” has become a well-known celebration across Taiwan, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to the mountain town of Pingxi every year to witness the magical moment when lanterns float into the sky. Last year’s creative-shaped sky lantern competition received widespread acclaim, and this year’s contest is now open for entries from today until October 5. Approximately 20 works are expected to be shortlisted to compete in the final release event on October 28, with the grand prize winner receiving a cash award of NT$30,000.

This year, the New Taipei City – Tourism and Travel Bureau continues to host the Creative Sky Lantern Competition, which will be judged in two stages. The preliminary round will be evaluated through document review, with approximately 20 works selected to advance to the final release event on October 28 at the Shiding Sky Lantern Square. The top three winners will receive prizes of NT$30,000, NT$20,000, and NT$10,000 respectively, and an additional three merit awards will be given, each with a prize of NT$6,000.

The symbolic meaning of sky lanterns for praying for peace has long been deeply rooted in people’s hearts and is beloved by many. Last year, the New Taipei City – Tourism and Travel Bureau specially organized a creative-shaped sky lantern competition, where the “Heart-Shaped Sky Lantern” and “Pumpkin Sky Lantern” stood out. These unique lantern designs were also released during special holidays, adding more diverse ways to enjoy the lantern experience.
