To showcase 101 must-visit spots in Taipei to Japanese tourists, the Taipei City Government’s Department of Information and Tourism invited members of the Japanese girl group AKB48 to film the travel program *AKB48’s Taipei Adventure* from July 1 to July 4. After a six-month selection process within the agency, three leading ladies were finally chosen to visit Taiwan: Katakura Yuka, Kikuchi Ayaka, and Abe Maria. This marks the first overseas activity for AKB48 following the conclusion of their fifth general election.

The AKB48 management company, AKS Co., Ltd., stated that since the group’s inception, no event or filming session—whether in Japan or overseas—has ever lasted more than three days. This marks the first exception, as three AKB48 members will be filming a four-day, three-night program abroad. Ever since receiving the Taipei City Government’s invitation for a four-day, three-night shoot late last year, hundreds of AKB48 members expressed strong interest in visiting Taiwan, hoping to promote the city and show Japanese audiences the freshest and most exciting side of Taipei.

The three selected members—Katakura Yuka, Kikuchi Ayaka, and Abe Maria—actively competed for the opportunity to film in Taiwan. Abe Maria said she’s a big eater who dreams of tasting delicious food from around the world and has long wanted to try Taipei’s cuisine. Kikuchi Ayaka, who loves beauty, heard about Taipei’s unique beauty remedies that can make you laugh and cry, and was determined to experience them firsthand. Katakura Yuka, who has visited Taipei many times before, was touched by the city’s warm hospitality and insisted on being the guide for the other two, so they could all enjoy the best of Taipei together.

The three members visiting Taiwan this time are core members of AKB48’s main team and also align with the show’s three major themes: experiencing “Taipei with the Warmth of Home” at Meiting, Peitou Old Street, and Qingtian Street; searching for “Taipei That Makes You Beautiful” in Beitou’s hot spring area; and personally enjoying “Taipei’s Food Feast” at Raohe Tourist Night Market. It is hoped that as the show airs, Japanese tourists will gain a deeper understanding of Taipei and ultimately fall in love with the city.

The *AKB48’s Taipei Adventure* program primarily features filming locations in Beitou’s hot spring district, Raohe Tourist Night Market, and Ximending. Each of the three members searches for their own “life highlight” in Taipei, and together they experience the most touching aspects of the city. Through Taipei’s delicious food, beautiful sights, warm human interactions, and the blend of modernity and tradition in everyday urban life, they uncover the incredible charm of Taipei. The show is scheduled to air in Japan in late August.
