To meet the exacting standards of French elites on vacation, Relais & Châteaux was established in France in 1954, inviting premium and uniquely distinctive hotels and restaurants to become members. Starting with just 8 members in France, it has now grown to 520 members (445 hotels and 75 independent restaurants) worldwide. Currently, there are three Relais & Châteaux members in Taiwan: Le Moût, founded by acclaimed chef André Chiang of Relais & Châteaux, Beitou’s San Er Xia Guan, and 2013’s new member, Fulanduo Wulai.

The common trait of those invited to join Relais & Châteaux is their small yet refined nature. These hotels and restaurants are not international chains, but all share a “butler-like spirit,” offering unique, locally inspired service. When you step into a Relais & Châteaux hotel or restaurant, it feels as delightful as visiting a like-minded friend’s home. Moreover, Relais & Châteaux places special emphasis on cuisine — no wonder among its 160 “Distinguished Chefs,” the total number of Michelin stars adds up to 350. For Relais & Châteaux, fine dining and pleasure are inseparable; only when the palate is satisfied can one truly enjoy traveling.

To ensure that Relais & Châteaux guests enjoy unforgettable and distinctive experiences wherever they travel, in addition to the meticulous, butler-style service within hotels or restaurants, Relais & Châteaux also invites its members to craft customized local travel routes based on their own interpretations. These are called “La Route du Bonheur” (The Path to Happiness). In June 2013, Chef André Chiang of Le Moût launched a happiness route tailored for Asian travelers, taking them from Keelung, Jiufen, Sanyi, Sun Moon Lake, and on to Macau. Chef Chiang shared that these are places where she traveled with her children and created happy memories, and now she recommends them to international visitors, hoping everyone can enjoy the warmth of human connection.

The Relais & Châteaux Travel Guide has now been published in Chinese for the first time. This over 700-page luxury travel bible includes information on 520 member hotels and restaurants. You can also download the Relais & Châteaux app, which not only provides local weather forecasts, time, and geographical location, but also allows direct booking of rooms and tables.
