Taiwan High-Speed Rail raised its fares starting October 8th, with increases of up to 9.6%. To promote domestic tourism, the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications and Taiwan High-Speed Rail jointly launched the “Taiwan Good to Go” Orange Travel Pass, which not only freezes the fare increase but also offers a 25% discount, saving travelers 32% compared to purchasing high-speed rail tickets individually. Additionally, the first 500 sets come with a “Taiwan Good to Go Membership Card” that includes NT$100 in stored value. These multiple discounts help independent travelers in Taiwan save significantly.

The Tourism Bureau explained that the “Orange Travel Pass” includes a round-trip high-speed rail ticket (the departure and return stations must be the same), a “Green Travel Pass” that allows you to choose any of 20 Taiwan Good to Go routes, as well as a one-day pass for Taipei Metro or a one-day unlimited ride card for Kaohsiung MRT. The first 500 sets also come with a “Taiwan Pass” electronic ticket (Taiwan Good to Go Membership Card) with NT$100 in stored value, making it convenient for travelers to transfer between various bus lines and handle both short- and long-distance transportation in one go. For example, starting a trip from Taipei to Kenting, using the “Orange Travel Pass” for the high-speed rail can now save you NT$1,030 (with the post-increase fare at NT$3,260, while the Orange Travel Pass high-speed rail ticket is only NT$2,230). You can also exchange for discounted round-trip “Taiwan Good to Go—Kenting Express” tickets for quick back-and-forth travel in the Kenting area, and use the included “Taiwan Good to Go Membership Card” to take buses to explore various local attractions.
This year, travelers have switched to using the “Taiwan Round-the-Island Travel Pass,” where the “Green Travel Pass” offers rides on 20 “Taiwan Good to Go” routes, making it perfect for exploring all over Taiwan or sharing among family and friends for added convenience and savings. The “Blue Travel Pass,” combined with Taiwan Railways, is convenient for international independent travelers planning multi-day trips around Taiwan, while the “Orange Travel Pass” offers up to a 31% discount on high-speed rail fares.
