The Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau held the "Greater Taichung Ocean Music Festival" environmental education campaign to coincide with World Environment Day (June 5) and World Oceans Day (June 8). The event was held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, 103 (2014), at Da'an Beach.

This event combines World Environment Day and World Oceans Day. In addition to live band performances of ocean-themed songs, there were also fun and educational environmental challenge games, with limited-edition gifts (100 available) for participants who completed the challenges. Everyone is invited to spend a meaningful afternoon during the holiday learning about and caring for the ocean. Through hands-on experiences and the power of music, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting the ocean. Without a healthy ocean, there is no healthy Earth. Let’s unite to “protect the ocean and defend the planet.”

Director Huang Chong-dian of the Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau stated that this event uniquely incorporates Taichung’s characteristic sandy beach, with rock bands performing to energize the atmosphere, alongside environmental education activities, all in line with this year’s World Environment Day slogan — “Raise your voice, not the sea level” — to collectively address climate change. Additionally, by connecting with nature and taking action, participants can realize that the ocean is the cradle of life. Rational development and utilization are essential to ensuring the sustainable development of marine ecosystems and resources. The public is encouraged to recognize that ocean resources are not infinite and must be preserved for future generations, so we can continue to protect this precious environment and its resources.

The Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau also calls on everyone to join in this year’s World Oceans Day theme — “Together we have the power to protect the ocean.” We sincerely invite you to come with your family and friends to the “Greater Taichung Ocean Music Festival”! This summer, let’s party at Da'an and embrace our beautiful ocean.
