On February 28, the eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak issued a notice prohibiting foreigners who have been in South Korea within the past 14 days from entering (Sarawak had already banned foreigners who had been in China within the past 14 days from entering on February 1). Sabah, also in East Malaysia, subsequently announced that starting March 1, foreigners who have been in South Korea within the past 14 days would be prohibited from entering (including those transiting through South Korea).
The Taiwanese Representative Office in Malaysia was informed on the evening of February 29 that several nationals were denied entry after arriving in Sarawak. Since Sarawak’s February 1 notice only restricted the entry of travelers from China and those who had been in China, the office immediately explained to Malaysian authorities that Taiwan’s epidemic prevention measures are rigorous, and that Taiwan is not the same as China, and thus should not be included.
