To allow nature ample time to rest, Chiaming Lake, known as the “Angel’s Tear,” entered a three-month quiet period starting January 5, 105 (2016), during which the area was completely closed and mountain hut applications were suspended. Now, the Taitung Forest Management Office has announced that the Chiaming Lake National Trail will reopen on April 1, giving everyone a chance to admire the beautiful scenery of Chiaming Lake.

The Chiaming Lake National Trail is part of the southern section of the Central Mountain Range. The trail features well-defined paths and rich, diverse alpine ecological landscapes, passing through Taiwan hemlock forests, Taiwan fir forests, high-altitude valleys, cliffs, bamboo grasslands, and mountaintop ridges. The sights of echoing deer calls in quiet valleys, contiguous mountain peaks, winter snowscapes, bright moonlight, and starry skies have long attracted hikers.

The Xiangyang Mountain and Sancha Mountain along the trail each offer unique ecological landscapes. Xiangyang Mountain marks the southernmost limit of the alpine tundra ecosystem in the Central Mountain Range, while Sancha Mountain is famed for its vast and magnificent alpine grasslands and the sapphire-like Chiaming Lake. The vibrant blooms of spring and summer, as well as the winter snowscapes of these two mountains, are must-see natural wonders. After three months of quiet rejuvenation, Chiaming Lake reopens on April 1. Regulations regarding entry and mountain hut applications will also be announced on that day.
