"When you're making PPTs, Alaskan cod are leaping out of the water; when you're looking at reports, the golden monkeys of Meili Snow Mountain are just climbing to the treetops; when you're squeezing into the subway, the Tibetan eagles are circling above the clouds... Go traveling. Walk some paths high heels can't reach, breathe some air perfume can't smell, and meet some people you'd never meet in an office building." This recent popular line on Weibo has long stirred the dormant outdoor spirit within us. Nature too has its own "wind, flowers, snow, and moonlight," and some people have long been happily journeying along the way.
      The snow mountains have "wind"
The climate on the snowy plateau is unpredictable—one moment it’s sunny, the next a cloud drifts by and it’s suddenly drizzling. Lao Wang and his teammates started hiking from Yunling Township at an altitude of 2,400 meters. Late October is the best season to view Meili Snow Mountain. The crisp air is invigorating. The moment the clouds part from the main peak, those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the peaks—Miancimu, Wuguan, and General Peak—are left stunned. The village of Yubeng, nestled at the foot of the snow mountain and almost completely cut off from the world, has no roads and no cell service—just breathtaking scenery. A paradise on earth doesn’t get more idyllic than this. As they walked and gazed, they even discovered a highland lake—the Ice Lake—which looked like a crystal-clear jewel surrounded by steep cliffs and snow-capped peaks. Lao Wang said, "Truly magnificent views are hard to come by, but to truly enjoy the snowy plateau, you need gear with great insulation!"

      The forest hides "flowers"
The road to Leigongshan Park was full of puddles after the rain, and it was a bit tough going for hikers like "Baozi Ge." The mountain path was rugged, slippery, and unfamiliar. At the break of dawn, stepping on moss and mud, the group slowly made their way toward Qixing Lake along the path guided by locals. When the towering peaks, the pristine dense forests, the crystal-clear mountain springs, and the fragrant blossoms appeared before their eyes, the "Baozi Ge" bunch couldn't help but exclaim, "It's worth it!" Though their shoes were completely unrecognizable, caked in a mix of mud and rainwater and looking utterly miserable, the interior remained as comfortable as ever. On Leigong Mountain, there's a saying: "One mountain, four seasons; every hundred meters, a different sky." Just as you feel the vibrant energy of spring, you’re immediately hit with the sweltering humidity of summer, followed by the howling mountain winds mixed with drizzling rain. Without a pair of durable, breathable shoes, you truly wouldn't be able to enjoy such beauty.
      By the river, watching "rain"
The still objects outside the car window changed rapidly as the altitude soared, and Zhang Yi felt a slight discomfort in his ears. After a month of continuous heavy rain, the Yalu River flowed even more swiftly. Leaning against the car window, Zhang Yi thought back to the previous night at the farmhouse—drinking mellow aged liquor, eating authentic Yalu River carp, paired with wild black fungus, free-range chicken, and farm-fresh eggs—a meal that surpassed any fancy dinner he’d had in the city. Hiking along the six-meter-wide cement path from Yangmulinzi Village on the China-North Korea border to Lianggu Bridge was truly a hiker’s paradise. There were no crowds—only the vast misty waters. Had it not been for the persistent heavy rains creating thick moisture in the air, they wouldn’t have experienced this ethereal, foggy wonderland. "The shimmering light on the water is lovely in fine weather, the mountain hues and rain create a unique charm"—Zhang Yi could easily have used Su Dongpo’s poetic line praising West Lake to describe the scene. The car continued upward, white mist wrapping around the mountains like a belt. The moving fog resembled a green-dressed fairy twirling her white silk ribbon. Cozy in his seat, Zhang Yi drifted off to sleep. His dry, comfortable feet made him indifferent to the dampness and wind outside—he just waited for the next burst of beauty upon waking.

      Midnight moon exploration
Nighttime hiking is always exhilarating. It's thrilling, adventurous, and tests your overall skills. During the day, people rely on their eyes, but at night, it’s the opposite. Once your eyes adjust to the dim environment, the level of "vision" you gain in darkness might even surprise yourself. More and more people are taking up nighttime hiking, and the knowledge surrounding it is being widely and deeply explored. Telling fuzzy images apart, distinguishing various shadows, and paying attention to trail marks are all things nighttime hikers need to learn and be mindful of. Moving forward in the dark with the light of a headlamp or flashlight, staying focused, slowing down, and proceeding steadily make for an exciting adventure into the unknown. The foundation of joyful hiking is safety—it's best to travel light. A versatile pair of outdoor shoes meets all needs, much like a simple jog—no heavy load, just attentiveness, patience, and a lighter heart.
