4-hectare Hollyhock Sea: Breathtaking Backdrops for Stunning Photos!

From late February to April each year, hollyhocks are in full bloom in Tainan, where you can find an absolutely gorgeous sea of these flowers. The hollyhocks grow taller than a person, making you feel as if you’ve wandered into a floral maze — a truly spectacular sight.

The Guanghua Community in Xuejia, Tainan, is a popular spot to admire the hollyhock sea. This year, the “2020 Nian Lian Xuejia Hollyhock Flower Culture Festival” was held on February 28. In addition to 4 hectares of romantic hollyhocks, the event also features around 20 hectares of complementary flower fields including wheat, pink skullcap, zinnias, and rapeseed flowers, creating a truly dreamy atmosphere.

This year, a 4-hectare hollyhock sea has been planted in fallow farmland areas. Hollyhocks can grow up to three meters tall, which is why they’re also known as “one-zhang red” (a traditional Chinese unit of length). In addition to the usual companions like wheat, rapeseed, and red amaranth, this year’s display includes pink skullcap, cockscomb flowers, and zinnias, adding even more colorful layers and fresh visual interest.

Walking through the flower-filled countryside and taking deep breaths of nature’s restorative air can help soothe both body and mind. Couples visiting for a date can not only take ethereal, fairytale-like photos among the flower seas, but also nurture their relationship and relieve stress.
