The first stop of the nationwide public lecture tour of the "National Outdoor Safety Education Program," organized by the China Mountaineering Association, officially kicked off on the afternoon of the 28th at China University of Geosciences (Beijing). The lectures are free and open to the public, aiming to help more outdoor enthusiasts learn about risk avoidance and safety essentials during outdoor activities.

With the upcoming National Day holiday, which is another peak period for outdoor enthusiasts to travel, the organizers also hope to take this opportunity to remind participants to always prioritize "safety" while enjoying the joys of outdoor activities.

Li Zhixin, Vice Chairman of the China Mountaineering Association, emphasized in his speech that mountain enthusiasts planning to travel during the holiday must make thorough preparations beforehand. They should carefully assess the climate, environment, and routes of their destinations, bring all necessary outdoor gear, choose activities that match their abilities, and travel with experienced and skilled companions or organizations. Outdoor leaders must hold professional qualifications, be diligent and responsible, and promptly report to local mountaineering associations or relevant departments before departure or when issues arise, in accordance with regulations, to obtain timely rescue and reduce injuries.

The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" is a large-scale public welfare initiative aimed at educating and raising awareness about mountaineering and outdoor safety across society. It was launched in response to the rapidly growing outdoor sports scene in China, the current severe safety challenges, and drawing on international experience and social needs. The program promotes the outdoor philosophy of being "safe, scientific, and environmentally friendly," enhances safety awareness, popularizes essential outdoor safety knowledge, and supports the healthy development of outdoor sports.

The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" will deliver extensive and sustained safety education and awareness through various means such as distributing outdoor safety materials, organizing national lecture tours, TV safety talks, training sessions, and establishing outdoor safety columns across different media platforms. By integrating government and social resources, the program aims to raise public awareness of outdoor risks, teach and equip people with basic methods and skills to manage these risks, and effectively prevent and reduce the occurrence of outdoor accidents.

In 2013, the "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" will implement eight key initiatives: developing outdoor safety education and promotional materials, organizing national lecture tours on outdoor safety, hosting outdoor safety TV talks, creating outdoor safety training programs, cultivating outdoor safety education bases, forming volunteer-based teams of lecturers and safety advocates, conducting outdoor safety seminars and research, and analyzing outdoor accident cases.

The "National Outdoor Safety Education Program" is guided and supported by the General Administration of Sport of China, funded by the China Sports Lottery Public Welfare Fund and the Chinese Olympic Committee Foundation, and organized by the Mountaineering Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China and the China Mountaineering Association. It involves participation from local sports authorities, mountaineering and outdoor associations, clubs, schools, enterprises, and other organizations. (End)
