The 2014 Shanghai Midi Music Festival has been officially scheduled for April 25–27 at Sanjia Port in Pudong, while the China Light • 2014 Yangtze River Midi Music Festival is set to take place as planned during the National Day holiday in October at the same venue. Details about the 2014 Beijing Midi Music Festival venue will also be announced shortly.

This year’s Shanghai Midi Music Festival will feature the MINI-Tang, UN (United Nations), and Yuan stages, while the Beijing Midi Festival will include the UN (United Nations)-Tang, MINI-Song, Jäger-Yuan, Warring States, and Kids Midi stages. Headlining acts include British rock legends Suede and American funk master Larry Graham with his band Larry Graham & Graham Central Station, alongside powerhouse international acts such as German gothic metal band Lacrimas Profundere, Israeli powerhouse Orphaned Land, and Swiss percussion group Bubble Beatz. The 2014 Shanghai/Beijing Midi Music Festivals are set to launch in grand style.
In April 2014, Beijing — the United Nations Office in China and the United Nations Development Programme will collaborate for the first time with China’s largest rock music festival, the Midi Festival, using music to spread positive energy, allowing more young people to learn about and engage with the work of the UN, and further establishing the UN’s positive image among youth. This collaboration will take place both online and offline, with the UNDP aiming to leverage music and social media to promote the importance of sustainable development to the Chinese public, especially young people. By singing the praises of environmental protection and raising public awareness, the initiative aims to build a cleaner, greener future. The UN-Midi collaboration also includes the establishment of a “UN Stage” at both the Shanghai and Beijing Midi Festivals, featuring performances by both domestic and international bands. The “UN Stage” will be a highlight of this year’s Midi events. During the festivals, UN staff and volunteers will join festival-goers for interviews and games, introducing various UN work areas and the Millennium Development Goals, while promoting the spirit of volunteerism alongside the bands performing on the “UN Stage.”
The joint UN-Midi online campaign “#Sing4Green” (#SingForGreen) aims to spark reflection on a greener planet through musical interaction and to create a better future. The campaign has specially invited pain of thought, performers at the Midi Festival, to serve as “online ambassadors,” who have rewritten lyrics for their popular song “Highway Song” as a special environmental anthem. Netizens and fans are also encouraged to write their own lyrics and create covers expressing their vision for a greener future. For details on how to participate, visit the official UNDP website or follow the UNDP and Midi Festival on Weibo and WeChat.
