From the first edition in 2004 themed "The History of Guangzhou" to 2014’s "Living · Poetic Guangzhou," the "Discover Guangzhou" public welfare activity has entered its eleventh year. The 11th edition of the "Discover Guangzhou" public welfare event will launch citywide on June 8, with about 170 teams and over a thousand volunteers setting off on a marvelous journey — an event that combines a public welfare competition with the theme of "discovery" in this livable city. Supported by outdoor brand CAMEL and many caring individuals, the event receives clothing, prizes, vehicles, and other materials for both volunteers and the activity itself, encouraging more and more people to get involved.
The "Discover Guangzhou" event was initially initiated by a group of outdoor enthusiasts who love Guangzhou. Each year, they set a time and a theme, exploring every corner of the city to "discover" another side of Guangzhou. From 2004 to now, the event has spanned a decade, continuously expanding its influence. Starting with fewer than a hundred participants, it has grown to attract over a hundred teams and more than a thousand participants. It has become an important gathering event for outdoor enthusiasts in the Pearl River Delta region, as well as attracting many white-collar workers and students.
It is reported that preparations for the 2014 "Discover Guangzhou" event are largely complete. To tackle the challenge of the June heat, outdoor brand CAMEL has provided nearly a hundred volunteers with equipment support such as quick-dry shirts, and has also dispatched a team of eight employee volunteers known as the "Camel Team" to participate in the event. They will experience firsthand and discover Guangzhou through action.
On the day of the event, June 8, whether they are "old locals," "newcomers," or migratory "snowbirds" who reside in Guangzhou and love the city, everyone will gather at the Canton Tower. Holding a "Guangzhou-flavored quiz sheet," they will weave through the streets and alleys of the city, seeking out many lesser-known landmarks — some unheard of, others heard of but never visited. They will explore and uncover the little-known cultural life and historical customs of Guangzhou, documenting them with words and photos to share with others. In one day, using their feet, eyes, and sincere hearts, they will discover and understand the past and present of this city, and "draw" a "Guangzhou Public Welfare Map" with their steps.
