On June 13, the launch ceremony of the nationwide large-scale outdoor signage activity "Point the Way China," initiated by the Green Field Rescue Team and supported by the One Foundation Rescue Alliance, was held at the Beijing Olympic Sports Center. The event called on professional outdoor leaders and clubs across the country to set up signage on thousands of outdoor routes in all provinces and cities, expressing the wish for “no more getting lost in China’s outdoors.”

Unveiling of the Seventh Generation Green Field Rescue Team Signage

At the launch ceremony, Haimao (online alias), leader of the Green Field Rescue Team, stated that "Point the Way China" will gather resources from professional leaders and clubs nationwide through local forums of the outdoor activity website Green Field. The first batch of signage will be installed on the most representative routes in various regions, with no initial restrictions on specific routes. The entire activity will be monitored and guided by the Green Field Rescue Team. The "first installation" of "Point the Way China" will take place on June 14, with six professional teams setting out from Beijing’s most easily confusing routes including Yudu Mountain’s Dadaituo, Beer Creek’s Xiaodaituo, Songshan’s Songhai Platform, Xidazhuangke’s Yanhaishan Ridge, Yanjiaping’s Xiaodaituo, and Dadaituo Village’s Xiaodaituo, completing all installations within one day.

The signage for "Point the Way China" will uniformly and clearly indicate route descriptions, regions, numbering, and other details, as well as the emergency rescue phone number of the Green Field Rescue Team. Unlike all previous signage, to encourage leaders to participate, the "Point the Way China" activity has specifically added an “Installer” section on all signs, encouraging leaders and clubs to leave their names on the signs as a testament to their contributions to China’s public-interest outdoor initiatives.

Leaders Participating in the First Installation Receive Plaques

Another more exciting significance of the large-scale outdoor signage activity "Point the Way China" lies ahead: as the activity progresses, all teams will gradually submit the coordinate data recorded via GPS devices to the Green Field Rescue Team. Ultimately, the rescue team will integrate and input this data into the backend of the GPS website Lüzijiao, forming a vast database of Chinese outdoor route coordinates. To comply with national surveying and mapping laws, the specific coordinates of individual points will not be made public but will only be accessible to the rescue team through a dedicated backend for use during emergency rescues.

Over the past decade, as outdoor sports have gradually gained popularity in China, public enthusiasm has continued to rise. With the increasing number of participants and growing base, the disparity in outdoor participation skills has also become evident, leading to frequent incidents of people getting lost in the mountains due to inadequate preparation or lack of experience. How to make outdoor activities safer and more manageable has become a topic of public concern. In recent years, more and more leaders and clubs have participated in setting up signage. As the first civil organization in China to carry out public-interest outdoor rescue activities, the Green Field Rescue Team conducted signage activities as early as 2007. This time, "Point the Way China" will be larger in scale and more standardized.
