It is reported that the recruitment for the third stop of VAUDE’s eco-friendly “Cycle to Climb” series — cycling around Taiwan and climbing snow mountains — has officially launched. This time, participants can not only continue to enjoy the thrill of cycling and mountaineering, but also become a junior instructor of the American Leave No Trace (LNT) “No Trace in the Wilderness” program through a study-travel experience.
The “Cycle to Climb” eco-friendly series is initiated by the leading German outdoor brand VAUDE. In 2013, two successful stops were held: “Cycling Across the July 1st Glacier” and “Meeting the Most Beautiful Season at Mt. Haba Snow Mountain.” The third stop, themed “Cycling Around Taiwan and Climbing Snow Mountains,” continues to combine the excitement of both cycling and mountaineering while offering training for the American Leave No Trace (LNT) junior instructor program through a study-travel format. Each participant will become a certified LNT junior instructor.
In 1991, the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) and the U.S. Forest Service compiled 20 years of thinking on “techniques for minimizing impact on wilderness” and jointly established the LNT principles. With funding from various organizations, a non-profit educational body — Leave No Trace, Inc. — was founded in 1994, tasked with spreading and promoting the LNT principles and the spirit of outdoor environmental protection.
In November, Taiwan is free from raging typhoons and sweltering heat. Taking Taiwan’s climate characteristics into account, the activity period is tentatively set from November 8 to 22. This 15-day exploration trip of cycling around Taiwan and climbing snow mountains is not a solo journey — you’ll be accompanied by a group of fellow outdoor enthusiasts who share your passion. Together, you’ll exchange experiences along the way. By cycling across Taiwan, you’ll cover around 1,000 kilometers over ten days, passing wetland parks, coastal highways, Sun Moon Lake, canyon landscapes, and coastal erosion formations, offering almost a complete view of the beautiful island. The mountain you’ll climb this time is Snow Mountain (Xueshan), standing at 3,886 meters above sea level — Taiwan’s second highest peak. Snow Mountain boasts a complete alpine ecosystem and rare glacial relics in the subtropics, making it truly captivating. Starting from the Snow Mountain trailhead, you’ll trek through dense forests full of mysterious adventure. During the ascent of Snow Mountain East Peak, you’ll take part in the LNT junior instructor training course, where each participant will gain more knowledge about mountain environmental conservation.
Cycling to climb — an eco-friendly outdoor approach — combines two exciting activities, and the third stop adds the American Leave No Trace (LNT) junior instructor training program, elevating the activity’s significance in environmental conservation.
