With continuous price hikes recently, a well-known chain bubble tea brand that overseas tourists visiting Taiwan must try in February this year announced a price increase. A newly launched fast food brand that quickly rose to fame has also followed suit with price adjustments. The successive rounds of price hikes have sparked reactions among netizens. Now, Taiwan’s famous snack, chicken cutlets, has also revealed plans for a price hike, prompting many online to lament that they “can’t afford to eat anymore.”

Crispy-skinned, tender, and juicy chicken cutlets are one of the must-try foods for Japanese and Korean tourists visiting Taiwan. However, with chicken prices rising this year, the chicken cutlet market has also been affected, leading to price increases. In the earliest days, a chicken cutlet cost only 30 or 35 NT, but now the price has soared to 80 NT per piece—an astonishing jump, with the price even reaching that of a full meal.

The chicken cutlets from the shop operated by celebrity NONO, known for being thick-cut and juicy, are among the favorite dishes on many foodies’ lists, and business is booming. But recently, prices have also been adjusted due to rising raw material costs, increasing from 70 NT to 75 NT per piece. The well-known chain chicken cutlet shop, Pikka Chicken Cutlet, has also raised its prices from 60 NT to 65 NT amid the price hike trend. Devil Chicken Cutlet has made an even more startling jump, raising prices by 10 NT to 80 NT per piece.

After the price hike news broke, some netizens said they couldn’t afford to eat them anymore and would switch to bento boxes instead. Others expressed nostalgia for the prices of the old days, sparking intense discussions online.
