Yesterday during the day, the northeast monsoon weakened, temperatures rose, and apart from cloudy skies and rain in the northeast, other areas enjoyed sunshine. Today (the 7th), influenced by a frontal passage and the arrival of a continental cold front, central and northern regions, as well as eastern and northeastern areas, will see localized rainfall, and temperatures during the Lantern Festival could drop as low as 12°C.

Affected by the frontal passage and the southward movement of the continental cold front, areas north of Miaoli and the northeastern region will experience localized brief showers starting from the early hours. The central region and mountainous areas in the south may also see scattered rainfall. As for Hualien-Taitung, the likelihood of rainfall will increase in the afternoon. Only the southern plains are expected to remain mostly cloudy to sunny.

The lowest temperature in the early morning was 13.4°C at the Xinyi weather station. Northern areas including Taichung saw lows around 13–15°C. With the southward push of the continental cold front, the entire northern Taiwan will experience wet and cold weather throughout the day. Daytime highs in areas north of Miaoli and in Yilan will only reach 17–18°C, while the central and eastern regions will see highs of about 23°C, and the south and southeastern areas around 25–29°C. Temperatures will drop progressively later in the day; stay alert to changes and dress warmly.

Due to the frontal passage and the southward movement of the cold front, weather in the north and northeast remains unstable.
In addition, areas such as Matsu and the western half of the country are prone to localized fog or low clouds that may reduce visibility. Those traveling or driving should pay attention to safety. From the evening of the 7th, northeasterly winds will strengthen again, bringing gale-force gusts of 8 to 9 on the Beaufort scale to areas north of Tainan, the eastern half of Taiwan (including Orchid Island and Green Island), the Hengchun Peninsula, as well as coastal and open areas of Penghu, Kinmen, and Matsu. Wind and waves along Taiwan’s coasts and adjacent seas will also intensify. Particularly, sudden large waves may occur along the Keelung northern coast—stay safe during coastal activities.
