A 2-kai drawing board, a cardboard box, a banner... On a 300-meter-long slope, university students quickly slid down to the bottom using tools at hand. This was a skiing scene that took place on the campus of Dalian University of Technology on the evening of the 7th. According to reporters, there are quite a few schools like DUT with slopes on campus. Since the school was going to clear the snow the next day, many students took advantage of this rare opportunity to go skiing.
The snowy campus turns into a natural ski resort
“Please don’t tell me anymore: our school has a swimming pool, our school has a luxury music room, our school has a luxury cinema. Let Brother Tu tell you, Brother Tu’s school has a ski slope, with a 47-degree incline and a total length of 300 meters. If you don’t believe it, come and challenge us. The whole scenic area is free, bring your own skiing gear, contact my friend for accommodation, everybody come!” On the morning of the 8th, this “domineering” Weibo post quickly triggered numerous reposts and comments from netizens. From the photos in the Weibo post, nearly 200 people were seen standing around a large snow-covered slope. It turned out to be the campus of Dalian University of Technology. After a heavy snowfall, several slopes on the campus had turned into a natural “ski resort.”
According to Xiao Gao, a sophomore majoring in fine arts at the university, due to the many slopes on campus, after the heavy snowfall on the 7th, many students got the idea to improvise and ski using whatever was at hand. Since most students at the university are from art and design majors, drawing boards became the most ideal “skis” in their eyes. “From around 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., about 200 people were playing on the slope from the entrance of Building 20 to the entrance of the Comprehensive Building. There were many people spontaneously protecting the skiers next to the slope, while others took photos nearby. It was quite a spectacular sight.”
Ski slopes for all skill levels available
After this Weibo post was published, it was reposted more than 100 times and drew envy from students at other universities. Some netizens said, “Let’s all go skiing at Dalian University of Technology together.” Others joked, “This year, DUT’s ‘ski resort’ is open for business again.” “How about we pour some water on our school’s big slope tonight, and we can ice skate tomorrow.” In addition, many alumni of the university admitted that everyone has played like this every time it snows. “Just passed by someone who has enjoyed four free winters.” According to reporters, universities such as Liaoning Normal University and Dalian University of Technology also have similar slopes on their campuses.
According to Xiao Gao, there are about 10 such slopes on campus. Every winter when it snows, these areas become lively. As a result, many students have divided these slopes into different difficulty levels. Xiao Gao noted that this kind of natural ski resort can only be used for one night because the school clears the snow early the next morning for safety reasons. Therefore, many people seize the opportunity to enjoy themselves to the fullest on this one-night-only ski slope.
