Many people’s first impression of Hokkaido is its snow-white winter landscapes, but actually, Hokkaido’s summer scenery is also incredibly beautiful—with vast fields of colorful blooms, endless grasslands, and breathtaking hidden gems that are definitely must-see sights in Hokkaido.

1. Tomita Farm
Tomita Farm is a flower farm located in Furano, renowned for its vast lavender fields and often called the "Provence of the East." It also grows other types of flowers such as poppies and chrysanthemums. In summer, the flowers bloom in vivid colors, and in recent years, the farm has become a popular tourist destination, making it a must-visit spot in Hokkaido.

2. Kitahiroshima Town Sunflower Land
Kitahiroshima Town Sunflower Land boasts around 1.3 million sunflowers blooming across more than 23 hectares of vast fields, creating a spectacular yellow carpet-like landscape. The flower fields are open from early July to peak bloom in early August each year, attracting over 200,000 visitors annually. The site also hosts the "Sunflower Festival," featuring activities like the "Sunflower Tour Bus" and a "Giant Sunflower Maze."

3. Blue Pond
Much like Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, the formation of Biei’s Blue Pond was a beautiful accident. Five kilometers away from the pond lies the active volcano Mount Tokachidake. Though dangerous, the volcano also enriches the region with thermal springs and picturesque scenery, drawing travelers for years.

4. Lake Mashu
Located in eastern Hokkaido, Japan, Lake Mashu once measured a water transparency of 41.6 meters in 1931—the highest in the world at the time. On clear days, the lake displays a unique blue hue, earning it the nickname "Sapphire of Mashu." The lake is also famous for its frequent mist cover.
