Dragon Boat Festival Training Exercise by the Snow Mountain Team and Scientific Expedition Team of China Agricultural University's Fengyun Society
2015Year6Month20to21, in order to strengthen the willpower of team members and enhance camaraderie, the Snow Mountain Team and Scientific Expedition Team of China Agricultural University's Fengyun Society conducted a training exercise on Haituo Mountain.
2015Year6Month20At 5:00 a.m., all team members gathered at the rock wall for a group photo. At 5:03 a.m., they officially set off and arrived at Beer Creek at the foot of Haituo Mountain at9:40. Carrying heavy loads, they hiked uphill. Despite the strong sun and hot weather, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of the team members. After seven hours of trekking, the team successfully crossed two mountains and arrived at the main peak of Haituo Mountain at16:40, at an altitude of2098.388meters.
After a short rest, the team descended to the saddle to set up camp. By this time, it was already 5:30 p.m. Members of GroupsA,B, andCgot busy preparing dinner. Since it was the Dragon Boat Festival, the group leaders and logistics heads also prepared zongzi (sticky rice dumplings) and watermelon for the members, which made everyone feel very warm. After dinner, the team members played games and chatted in their tents. The scientific expedition team also prepared small gifts for the members of both the snow mountain team and the scientific expedition team, giving everyone a big surprise and touching moment. After a day of exhausting climbing, everyone quickly fell asleep.
21At 6:30 a.m. the next day, everyone got up one after another to prepare breakfast. After lunch, the team packed up their gear and collected all the trash they had brought. At8:20, they set off and, after16minutes, arrived at the summit of the main peak of Haituo Mountain at8:38and began descending. Along the way, they passed the nearly80-degree gradient "Soul-Selling Slope." One male member partnered with one female member, and everyone successfully made it down the slope. All team members arrived at the mountain foot at12:20and then returned to school. The two-day Haituo training exercise was successfully concluded.
During this training exercise, all team members carried forward the fine traditions of the Fengyun Society and demonstrated the Fengyun spirit of “enduring hardship, working together, daring to win, and striving for the summit.” Moreover, during this training, the snow mountain team members and the scientific expedition team members deepened their bonds through mutual help and encouragement.
This summer vacation, the Scientific Expedition Team of China Agricultural University's Fengyun Society is about to go to Tibet for research, teaching support, and trekking around sacred mountains. The scientific expedition team members have been intensifying their training, and with the experience gained from this training exercise, they are confident in completing this challenging activity. We look forward to the eleventh year—this promise with Tibet—setting sail once again.
