Giant bright-red torii gates hang with prayer lanterns from the Xinying Taisue Temple, closely resembling the iconic scene of Tokyo’s Sensoji Temple’s Kaminarimon Gate. The Japanese-style lantern decorations set against the classic Chinese temple create an extraordinarily unique yet perfectly harmonious sight, offering worshippers and travelers an entirely different atmosphere and experience compared to traditional temples.

Located in Xinying, Tainan, the Xinying Taisue Temple boasts a long history, dating back as early as 1688, the 27th year of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty.

The Xinying Taisue Temple primarily enshrines Nezha’s three brothers: Jinzha, Muzha, and Nezha himself. As a Taoist temple, it holds an annual birthday pilgrimage for the Central Altar Prince Nezha on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month (Double Ninth Festival), making it one of the grandest religious celebrations in Taiwan.

This year’s lantern festival was incredibly dreamy, with rows of lanterns hanging high under the sky alongside giant torii gates—perfect for amazing photos.
