50,000 colorful pineapples create a sea of hues – the dazzling Caiwang Festival kicks off at this charming farm

During the spring break, which coincides with Pingtung’s golden diamond pineapple harvest season, the county government has specially partnered with local farmers in Gaoshu Township, Pingtung, to jointly launch the “2019 Colorful Caiwang Festival.” They’ve dressed up the pineapples in the fields with multicolored “hats,” creating from a distance a vibrant and splendid sea of colorful blooms that’s truly eye-catching!

The 2019 Colorful Caiwang Festival runs from April 4 to 7, featuring 50,000 pineapples each wearing “hats” in various colors such as green, orange, red, purple, and blue. This transforms the once ordinary pineapple fields into the photogenic “Pineapple Painting Field,” an Instagram-worthy spot created entirely from a splash of colors. And these “hats” aren’t just for decoration—their primary purpose is to protect the pineapples from sunburn.

Given Pingtung’s strong sunlight, to prevent the pineapple fruits from getting sunburned due to high temperatures, farmers usually cover the pineapples with “hats” as a form of sun protection. The county government and farmers have taken this clever idea further by crafting multi-colored hats for the pineapples. These not only shield the fruits but also use colors to turn the otherwise plain pineapple fields into striking landscape art, offering a uniquely charming experience.
