Penghu Aquarium opened in 1998 and was once voted by visitors as their favorite tourist attraction. It had been closed for about four years since 2014 and reopened on Children's Day, April 4th of this year.

The 20-year-old aquarium reopens this year with the special theme “Return.” Penghu Aquarium has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Marine Aquarium of Russia to promote exchanges in marine ecological conservation between the two sides, and will strive to host the “World Aquarium Congress” in Penghu, allowing global conservation experts to share the beauty of Penghu’s marine ecology.

Penghu Aquarium officially opened in April 1998. In 2004, it introduced private investment through a public-private partnership, with “Nanrenhu Enterprise” and “Dadongshan Hope World Company” successively participating in its operation. Dadongshan voluntarily applied to terminate the contract at the end of 2014, ceasing operations.

The Penghu Aquarium, closed for nearly four years, has been taken over by “Pengbo Marine Technology Co., Ltd.” The company invested over 40 million NTD and considerable manpower, completing the renovation in August 2018. After several months of trial operation and gradual optimization of operational details, it officially reopened on Children's Day, April 4th. The aquarium has newly planned four major zones: “Life Spring, Ocean Exploration, Dive into Dreams, and Conservation Classroom,” offering visitors a brand-new experience of Penghu’s beautiful underwater world.
