When talking about the U.S. West Coast, most people first think of California’s blue skies and picturesque golden coastline. Let’s take a romantic road trip with the goddess!

Just a 2 to 3-hour drive from the celebrity-filled LA city center, there are many attractions travelers shouldn’t miss. Head south along the straight highway, and before long, the scenery on both sides begins to change dramatically.

The roadside transforms from desert gravel to a sea of palm trees, and in the distance lies California’s largest saltwater lake, the Salton Sea. These seemingly contradictory natural landscapes are actually everyday sights along Southern California’s highways.

Near Bombay Beach, there’s an abandoned drive-in theater where, just like in the movies, you can park your car in front of the outdoor screen and wait for the film to start — the epitome of all-American romance.

There are also plenty of charming vintage cars on site. Although many are damaged and covered in cobwebs, their colors and designs are definitely worth seeing in person.
