[Shanghai Nütu Outdoor Takes You Walking on Cliffs and Precipices—Are You Up for It?]

Life is a journey of seeking challenges. The progress from wilderness to civilization marks humanity’s growth in discovering and conquering nature, while returning from civilization to the wild is a journey of rediscovering our true selves through embracing nature’s rawness. Physical challenges awaken the primal power within us that merges with nature; braving wind, rain, and overcoming dangers purifies our souls and enhances our capabilities.

A journey of seeking challenges is surely one that adjusts body and mind, cleanses the soul, reinterprets the meaning of life, and offers a deeper understanding of so-called faith, purity, and the essential joys of life.

"Via Ferrata" is the transliteration of an Italian term, meaning "iron path" in Chinese. It refers to mountain routes equipped with iron rungs, fixed cables, rock anchors, and foot pads, enabling climbers without technical rock-climbing skills to scale steep cliffs. It is now widely popular in Europe and gradually becoming a beloved outdoor adventure sport, though it is still in its early stages in China.

During World War I, Italian soldiers built routes with iron rungs, fixed cables, rock anchors, and foot pads on mountainsides to quickly scale the Dolomite range, allowing non-climbers to ascend steep cliffs. This climbing method later evolved into a new outdoor sport—rock climbing accessible to everyone. This is what “Via Ferrata” is.

When it comes to the outdoor activity of Via Ferrata, many may find it unfamiliar, as it has only been introduced to China in recent years. Currently, there are only a few places in China where you can experience Via Ferrata. In this season of spring growth and summer flourishing, Shanghai Nütu Outdoor Club—the first organization in East China to organize Via Ferrata activities—takes you walking on cliffs like a “Spider-Man,” offering a unique outdoor experience.

[Destination Introduction]

Located in Xiangshan Bay, Ningbo, the base covers over 50 acres. Construction began in 2016, and trial operations started on May 1, 2017. It is East China’s first Via Ferrata route, stretching over 300 meters. With majestic mountain terrain, steep cliffs, and lush forests, the area features rugged rocks at the base due to historical seawater erosion… Nütu Outdoor will take you to experience the thrill of climbing on cliffs.

[Project Highlights]

1. Experience the fun of walking on cliffs via Via Ferrata; other outdoor activities include zip-lining, “Ants Climbing Trees,” aerial net bridges, swinging bridges, net walls, and rock climbing.

2. A hiking loop around Baiyan Mountain offers panoramic views, with thousands of acres of reclaimed land below and the endless sea in the distance. “While training your body, you can also enjoy the beautiful seascape—it’s an absolutely amazing experience.”

3. Island camping offers an experience you won’t find on any other route.

4. Try cooking a unique meal on a wood-fired stove using your own hands.

5. DIY barbecues offer yet another distinctive experience.

6. Camping in the mountains allows you to stargaze at night, with the twinkling sky seemingly winking at you—as if living in a fairy tale.

7. Activity features: natural oxygen bar, pristine environment, Via Ferrata, camping, and more.
