Giant 7-Meter Gaia Pop-Up in Taipei: The Floating Earth Insta hotspot Everyone’s Obsessing Over

The much-photographed floating Earth “Gaia” made its first appearance on Xiangdi Boulevard in Taipei’s Xinyi District, instantly becoming a must-capture spot on social media. Illuminated high above the night sky, it looked absolutely magical—leaving passersby in awe and racing to snap photos with their cameras.

This 7-meter-tall giant floating Earth, named “Gaia” (Gaia), was created by British artist Luke Jerram. It has been exhibited in Hsinchu and Hong Kong earlier this year, and its first appearance in Taipei’s Xinyi District has already attracted many onlookers to stop and take photos. Crafted at a scale of 1:1,800,000 of the real Earth, it looks stunning during the day, and glows at night, offering a completely different ambiance for photography.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, Discovery Channel brought “Gaia” to Xiangdi Boulevard in Taipei’s Xinyi District, with the Earth flanked by Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi A9 and A11. It hung in place for just one day but quickly sparked widespread discussion. Gaia will pop up for a one-day exhibit at Taipei City Hall on July 18, and then return to Xiangdi Boulevard for another exhibition on July 22.

When Gaia was previously exhibited at Xinfu Square in Hsinchu, it quickly became a hotspot for travelers to snap photos and post on social media. Now making its first Taipei pop-up, the light installation will only be on display until August 18.
