SWIX of Norway, SWIX of the world, SWIX of China

Cross-country skiing, biathlon, Nordic combined, and ski jumping are Norway’s strong events, and the scientific use of ski wax in these four disciplines can directly influence an athlete’s performance. In international competitions for these events, over 90% of athletes choose SWIX ski wax, and the world’s most professional waxing teams are either SWIX’s own ski preparation teams or individuals trained by them. Since its founding in 1946, SWIX has sponsored 7,500 world champions over 70 years and continues to support 1,300 top athletes globally.

Vegard Ulvang, the founder of SWIX’s sub-brand Ulvang and a director of the entire SWIX Group, currently serves as the chairman of the FIS Cross-Country Committee. The current CEO of SWIX, Thomas, is the former president of the World Winter Youth Olympic Games.

Therefore, this Norway-based, world-leading ski wax brand — and the only one in the skiing industry to hold such a dominant position within a single category — is also a brand that is constantly linked to competition results and always by the side of athletes and coaches.

Since entering China in 2015, SWIX has sponsored the national freestyle aerials team, the national snowboard halfpipe team, and the Bayi Ski Sports Team. SWIX is also the sole designated brand for ski wax, ski poles, and ski apparel in Heilongjiang Province, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, and the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. We have also brought on Swedish two-time gold medalist Lind from the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics in cross-country skiing as a company partner and technical consultant. It is fair to say we are the most authoritative and professional brand company in the global cross-country skiing field.

To prepare for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and strengthen China’s capabilities in these four disciplines rooted in cross-country skiing, the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of China actively implemented the “Intelligence Introduction” project, strengthened “external brain” preparation, explored open and international preparation approaches, and reached a strategic cooperation agreement with SWIX Sports Industry Development Co., Ltd. in March 2017. SWIX was commissioned to select, recruit, and more flexibly communicate with and motivate the world’s top foreign coaches and waxing teams, then integrate and resell their services to the Winter Sports Management Center.

To fully leverage the innate advantages of ethnic minority athletes from border regions, SWIX signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Sports Bureau of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in April 2017 to co-build the Xinjiang SWIX Cross-Country Ski Team. Starting now, all aspects of the Xinjiang cross-country ski team — including athlete selection, team formation, coaching staff, training plans, and competition schedules — will be managed by SWIX China.

With strong support and meticulous care from the Xinjiang Sports Bureau and the Winter Sports Management Center, these Uyghur, Kazakh, and Han athletes born for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics are rapidly growing under Norwegian training methods, Norwegian youth star coaches, world-class equipment, and an atmosphere of ethnic unity. In 2022, we are going for medals!

For skiing to thrive, the performance of professional teams must improve, which in turn drives mass participation. And cultivating professional talent requires a phased plan, as well as excellent coaches, a scientific system, an international perspective, and a flexible mechanism. To enhance the technical standards of China’s foundational disciplines — such as cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, and snowboarding — SWIX is currently introducing top-tier international training institutions to establish branches in China, offering specialized systematic training for national teams, provincial and municipal teams, sports school teams, and fourth-tier professional squads.

As a Norwegian brand with over 70 years of history and a global presence, we are wholeheartedly committed, confident, and capable of effectively bringing technology and culture to China — to create a SWIX of China.
