This year’s “2020 Pitchentou Cherry Blossom Festival” has begun. The popular cherry blossom spot in Xinyi Township, Nantou—Pitchentou—with over 4,000 pink cherry blossom trees, is seeing them bloom gradually. At the same time, snow-white pear blossoms are also flowering one after another, dying the entire hillside in a dual beauty of pink and white, attracting many visitors for a spring pilgrimage.

This year, with ample moisture and good floral conditions, the pear blossoms in Pitchentou have already bloomed first, covering the branches like tufts of snow. Meanwhile, mountain cherry blossoms and Kawazu-zakura are about 50–60% in bloom. They will soon be followed by double-flowered cherry blossoms (yaezakura), which are expected to reach full bloom by the Lunar New Year period. During that time, the pink and red floral rain will be misty and hazy, perfect for strolling along the cherry blossom paths.

Each year during the cold winter when flowers are in full bloom, the mountains are filled with competing cherry and pear blossoms, accented by the lush green layers of tea plantations, creating an even more vibrant and romantic scene.
