There were also rumors at one point that Chan Hsing International Travel Agency Co., Ltd. was planning to lay off 360 employees, and that the group’s Golden Mine Coffee would also be cutting jobs, among other swirling rumors. Chan Hsing Travel issued an official announcement in the evening of August 23 to clarify.

The actual number of employees notified of layoffs is 18 (for August to September), and the rent cost pressure for its 49 physical stores is indeed very high. Five stores in Taipei City are facing closure. In recent years, revenue has been declining due to various factors such as changing consumer demand, shifts in the market, and broader economic conditions, prompting efforts toward transformation and change.

Dear media friends, hello:

Regarding the news incident about Chan Hsing Travel, our response is as follows:
1. The reports in the media recently about large-scale layoffs do not align with the actual facts. It was a misreporting error.
2. Due to fierce market competition, Chan Hsing Travel has had poor operational and profitability performance in recent years. Therefore, in order to actively reform the corporate structure, we will continue to make changes to the personnel organization and streamline underperforming physical stores, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable business operations.
3. In the future, Chan Hsing Travel will continue to innovate its business model, strengthen our internal professional team to provide talent with opportunities to excel, and actively expand the market externally. We plan to pursue digital transformation and platform integration, creating a travel platform that meets consumer needs, thereby providing high-quality and diverse products and services.

Many tourism operators have been struggling in recent years. Travel agencies whose businesses are related to mainland Chinese tourists have been heavily impacted by the drop in visitors from China, while others have faced challenges due to the rise of independent travel, making group tour organization and sales more difficult. How to improve service quality and visibility has become a critical issue.

Some travel agencies, before completing their transformation, are still burdened with original revenue and costs, and have resorted to unpaid leave policies. With constantly evolving methods for promoting business through both physical outlets and digital sales, along with shifting consumer travel habits and broader economic conditions, tourism operators are indeed facing many challenges.
