Taiwan’s Only World-Class Secret Island: A Gourmet & Scenic Island-Hopping Tour in Penghu

Penghu is renowned for its stunning island scenery. Not only has it been selected as one of the world’s top ten secret islands, but it is also a member of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World organization. And Taiwan’s only international professional trail race that combines cross-sea island-hopping, resort vibes, gourmet feasts, environmental sustainability, and a Golden Melody Awards celebration—the “2019 Chrysanthemum Island Penghu Cross-Sea Marathon”—will kick off in grand style on November 3.

This event was meticulously planned by the team of polar explorer Lin Yi-chieh, with the theme “#BeYourOwnPacer,” encouraging runners to brave Penghu’s force 10 headwinds and push beyond their limits.

The Chrysanthemum Island Marathon is an IAAF/AIMS-certified international professional course and the only resort-style race in Taiwan that combines cross-sea and island-hopping elements. Moreover, this marathon features an AB-point, non-loop course, allowing runners to take in the full splendor of Penghu.

A major highlight of this marathon is the local cuisine. Runners can not only enjoy Penghu’s beautiful island scenery but will also encounter 18 specialty refreshment stations along the way, offering local delicacies such as pumpkin rice noodles, brown sugar cakes, cactus pancakes, squid balls, and handmade shrimp rolls—irresistible treats that may make you want to skip the finish line.

Beyond the scenery and food, the Chrysanthemum Island Marathon will host a post-race Wind-Chasing Market featuring a variety of unique vendors to celebrate the finish. Additionally, Golden Melody Award-winning singer A-Lin and local bands will perform at the Wind-Chasing Concert, soothing runners’ weary minds and bodies.
