To celebrate its 10th anniversary in Japan, the online hotel booking site Booking has launched a dreamy experience in collaboration with artist Sebastian Masuda (増田セバスチャン), who has produced singles for singer “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu” and is a leading figure in Japan’s “kawaii” culture. Together, they have created the visually stunning “Kawaii Room – Addicted to Tokyo,” with limited rooms available exclusively on Booking for just November 13, 14, and 15.
The “Kawaii Room – Addicted to Tokyo” draws inspiration from the traditional Japanese garment known as the “junihitoe” (12-layered ceremonial robe), blending traditional Japanese elements with modern themes.
The interior design of the “Kawaii Room – Addicted to Tokyo” is inspired by the traditional Japanese garment “junihitoe,” featuring 12 different patterns layered together. It merges traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern themes, presenting Japan’s avant-garde side through the concept of “Tokyo Obsession!” The high-ceilinged room features tatami flooring, Japanese paper doors, and floor cushions, all surrounded by a dazzling array of colorful patterns.
Sebastian Masuda is dedicated to promoting Harajuku culture and continues to be active as an artist and art director.
Masuda conveys the concept of “familiar yet strange” through artistic methods. In addition to traditional Japanese patterns, he also incorporates animal designs and icons based on the word “TOKYO” to create a strong visual impact. Among them, the tatami mat is decorated with Masuda’s signature bear motifs, showcasing various patterns reminiscent of Japanese origami art — a true reflection of Tokyo’s trend culture.
A limited-edition yukata exclusive to the “Kawaii Room – Addicted to Tokyo” is available, featuring the same pattern series as the room.
Guests who successfully book a stay will receive a set of exclusive limited-edition yukatas for the “Kawaii Room – Addicted to Tokyo.” Additionally, during the event period, they can visit a special rooftop area to view Masuda’s classic mushroom-shaped artworks. The first 100 customers to visit each day can also receive a free tenugui (hand towel). Even if you don’t book the “Kawaii Room,” you can still stay in other rooms and visit the rooftop area.
