My Unbreakable Bond with Skiing
Dr. Lu Jian, the “Father of Mass Skiing in China,” Releases New Book *Global Skiing – Travel Notes and Guides*

On the afternoon of November 28, 2018, Dr. Lu Jian’s new book *Global Skiing – Travel Notes and Guides* was launched at 8000M Coffee in Wangjing, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The event invited friends of Dr. Lu involved in the book’s creation and photography, as well as key figures from the skiing community and media.

With the approach of the Beijing Winter Olympics, China’s skiing market is gradually heating up, and more and more skiers have set off to challenge slopes abroad. *Global Skiing* is a collaborative effort by Dr. Lu Jian and his wife, Xu Yining (also known as Xiao Xi’er). Xu accompanied him on multiple trips abroad to ski resorts, capturing countless precious moments on camera while skiing alongside him. Their dedication over the past decade is truly commendable, and the couple is often referred to as a “match made in heaven.”

The event’s organizer and CEO of SkiChina, Ms. Daming, first expressed gratitude to the old friends present and paid high tribute to Dr. Lu and his wife, also thanking Dr. Lu for his trust in SkiChina. Ms. Daming stated that in its four years since founding, SkiChina has been committed to producing high-quality skiing content and promoting the sport. Through this launch of *Global Skiing*, she hopes to join Dr. Lu in creating deeper content for China’s ice and snow industry, further advancing the nation’s skiing endeavors.

Mr. Chen Kaihui, Director of the Album and Project Group at China Photography Publishing House, first congratulated Dr. Lu on the nationwide release of his new book *Global Skiing*. He also noted that *Global Skiing* is the first ski travel guide published in China authored by a skiing master, as well as the first global ski resort guide published domestically.

Ms. Gao Hongyan from the publishing house mentioned that every piece of writing in *Global Skiing* is based on Dr. Lu’s personal experiences, a crystallization of his wisdom and practice. The book fills a gap in China’s skiing literature and is a precious gift for skiing enthusiasts, as well as holding significant historical value. The presence of Dr. Lu has made a remarkable difference in China’s skiing industry, bringing exceptional fortune to the field.

*Global Skiing*: A Gift for All Ski Enthusiasts

*Global Skiing* is currently the only travel guidebook centered around skiing, as well as a skiing guide organized by different destinations. The book compiles various ski resorts across cities, immersing readers in the experience. Its vivid prose brings the scenes to life, unfolding them three-dimensionally on the page. The book includes chapters such as *Unique Volcano Helicopter Skiing*, *Greenland Fairy Tale*, and *Spring Skiing Diary in the Arctic Circle*, allowing readers to explore the unique characteristics of different countries and cities while experiencing diverse skiing adventures through Dr. Lu’s nuanced writing—bringing the graceful movements of skiers vividly to life through text.

Dr. Lu Jian took the stage himself to share his philosophy on skiing. In his speech, he humorously said that this book is like his own child, giving him the feeling of becoming a father later in life. In the preface, Dr. Lu reflected on the first 65 years of his life. He said during the speech: For him, skiing is a sport, a form of travel, a vacation; it is a lifestyle and an attitude toward life. To love skiing, one must first love oneself. Skiing is a hobby, a job, and even a part of life. Learning to master the ski board means learning to master life.

Venturing Abroad for Unique Ski Experiences

Dr. Lu Jian’s new book offers genuine experiences through his most authentic feelings. Reading his book, you can feel the thrill of speeding down snowy mountains and hear the wind rushing past your ears. Perfect turns on the slopes, the exhilaration of downhill runs—each mountain awaits your challenge. *Global Skiing* documents 31 ski paradises through the format of ski travel notes. Unlike rigid travel guides, the book uses skiing as a thread to connect 31 ski resorts, forming a unique “ski map” that allows readers to target their reading toward different skiing experiences in various regions. Whether for winter skiing enthusiasts or curious travelers seeking winter adventures, this book is the ultimate guide to finding distinctive winter experiences.

During the VIP interview session hosted by Dr. Lu’s old friend Mr. Wu Bin, Dr. Lu and four close friends shared legendary stories about their relationship with snow. Everyone agreed that skiing has changed their lives to varying degrees. Teacher Xiang Shan mentioned that for skiing enthusiasts, age is no barrier—you can ski from age 3 to 100. Mr. Ding Changfeng, Senior Vice President of Vanke Group, said that for those who love skiing, injuries are inevitable. Pain is part of the sport and also part of life. Meanwhile, Ms. Wu Bin, a friend of the Lus, noted that skiing has influenced not only Dr. Lu’s generation of skiing enthusiasts but also the younger generation to come.

*Global Skiing*: A Beacon for Ski Enthusiasts

This book makes a tremendous contribution to China’s skiing industry, driving progress in the sector and marking a milestone for Chinese citizens venturing abroad to experience international skiing. It also holds milestone significance for the sport of skiing itself. Dr. Lu Jian spent 10 years personally skiing at 31 resorts worldwide to complete this unprecedented work, *Global Skiing*. He also expressed his intention to continue refining it, expanding his skiing footprint to slopes around the world.

Dr. Lu Jian’s *Global Skiing* is a gift for all skiing enthusiasts. For Chinese skiers, this book is not just Dr. Lu’s personal skiing diary—it lays a solid foundation for all passionate skiers and illuminates the path for those preparing to or already undertaking global skiing adventures, serving as a guiding light for ski enthusiasts on their journey forward.
