Spring in Japan is the season of cherry blossoms. For the Japanese, cherry blossom viewing is more than just sightseeing—it’s a cultural experience. Under the cherry trees, it’s traditional to enjoy a bento while drinking, sip tea while admiring the blossoms, or even compose poetry. There are many delightful ways to enjoy hanami.

Kansai has many famous cherry blossom viewing spots. Among them, Osaka offers several places where you can enjoy the blooms with ease. Here are two of the most popular spots recommended by us.

The first is Osaka Castle Park. It’s a lush, green park centered around Osaka Castle, conveniently located near a train station (Osaka Castle Park Station on the JR Loop Line). In the Nishinomaru Garden, a designated Important Cultural Property, about 300 Somei Yoshino cherry trees are planted. If you visit when the castle’s lights are on, you can enjoy the serene beauty of the blooming cherry trees reflected in the illuminated castle.

The second is the Osaka Mint Bureau, selected as one of Japan’s “100 Best Cherry Blossom Spots.”

Normally, entry is strictly limited, but during cherry blossom season, parts of the area are opened to the public. Strolling along the 560-meter path, you’ll find about 130 varieties of cherry blossoms in full bloom. The focus here is on late-blooming double-flowered cherry trees, giving you more time to admire their beauty.

While enjoying the blossoms, do you also want to take home some cherry blossom-themed souvenirs?

We recommend Hankyu Department Store in Osaka Umeda, which displays a wide array of cherry blossom-themed goods.

During cherry blossom season, if you want to bring back a piece of Japan’s spring, we think pearl jewelry is perfect.

This brooch from MIKIMOTO on the 5th floor of Hankyu Department Store features a delicate pink cherry blossom design, creatively paired with white mother-of-pearl, diamonds, platinum, and Akoya pearls, resulting in an elegant and intricate design.

There are many other items that vividly capture the brilliance of blooming cherry blossoms.

On the 1st floor, the “COACH” store has also launched a Japan-exclusive cherry blossom-embossed leather bag.

The women’s lingerie section on the 3rd floor has also introduced new cherry blossom-themed lingerie. The designs feature delicate embroidery and shimmering gold thread, creating a luxurious visual of blooming cherry blossoms. The bold cherry blossom patterns exude opulence!

Additionally, there are products that let you immerse yourself in the scent of cherry blossoms anytime.

On the 1st floor, “L'Occitane” has launched a seasonal Cherry Blossom collection.

Hand cream and body lotion made with shea butter and cherry blossom petals keep your skin smooth. They envelop you in a sweet and tangy cherry blossom fragrance, as if you’re wrapped in blossoms.

Want your whole room to smell faintly of cherry blossoms? We recommend this diffuser.

The 7th-floor “karisu Seijo” Heavenly Aroom diffuser features the traditional Japanese Somei Yoshino cherry blossom scent. There are also other varieties like “double-flowered cherry” and “weeping cherry,” allowing you to relax and uplift your mood in the gentle aroma of cherry blossoms.

Travelers in Japan—want to take home some traditional cherry blossom-themed goods?

The “Takebou” makeup brushes, handcrafted by Japanese artisans using traditional maki-e lacquer techniques, feature brush handles with exquisite cherry blossom designs. Many everyday items also embody traditional Japanese beauty. One of the most versatile is the furoshiki wrapping cloth, which also comes in cherry blossom patterns. Step into the store and feast your eyes on the various forms of cherry blossoms displayed beautifully.

After all that walking, how about taking a break on the 9th floor at a café and trying some cherry blossom-flavored desserts?

We recommend visiting the long-renowned Japanese-style café “kanmikoyori.” Be sure to try their limited-time sakura mochi roll cake made with pickled cherry blossom leaves~~your mouth will water!

There’s also “a le Loic,” where you can choose healing, sweet cherry blossom-flavored ice cream and a “cherry blossom latte” for a full dose of happiness.

If you love sweets, you should definitely pick up some seasonal cherry blossom-themed souvenirs. Head to the basement dessert floor.

At the Western-style pastry shop “HIBIKA,” known for creating desserts that reflect the changing seasons, you’ll find spring-themed cakes like their “Sakura” cake, which perfectly combines cherry blossom mousse and strawberry pudding.

Also, “a la campagne” has introduced new cherry blossom tarts. The tart shells are infused with cherry blossom flavor and decorated with white chocolate and cherry blossoms, adding a delightful touch to your spring afternoon tea.

Of course, besides Western desserts, Japanese sweets also feature the cherry blossom maiden. “Tsuruya Yoshinobu” sells sakura-shaped yokan (sweet bean jelly) made with kudzu starch from Yoshino, Nara—a famous cherry blossom spot. It has a smooth texture and is an elegant, refined Japanese dessert.

During cherry blossom season, if you want to shop, eat, and have fun, you must visit Hankyu Umeda Main Store. At Hankyu, you can use UnionPay, Alipay, or WeChat Pay to get an instant 5% discount.
