The two characters “Bixian” (pure and flawless) were written by Zhu Yingtai on a folding fan when she and Liang Shanbo parted ways, meaning “a pure and unblemished beautiful jade,” symbolizing Zhu Yingtai’s pure feelings for Liang Shanbo, used as a subtle confession.
