A 63-year-old man surnamed Liu from Gongguan, Miaoli, went hiking alone on Mount Malabang in Dahu Township at around 8 a.m. on the 21st. He is suspected to have suddenly felt unwell and collapsed about 300 meters above the trailhead. Four hikers who came later found him unresponsive with no signs of breathing or heartbeat. They immediately called the police and took turns performing CPR on him. Police and firefighters soon arrived, carried Mr. Liu down the mountain, and rushed him to Dasun Hospital for emergency treatment, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead.

The man surnamed Liu rode his scooter alone in the morning, carrying a hiking backpack and trekking poles, to hike Mount Malabang in Dahu. At around 8:30 a.m., he was found by other hikers lying motionless about 300 meters above the trailhead. The four hikers quickly called the police and performed CPR on him for about 30 minutes. When police and firefighters arrived, they initially assessed that Mr. Liu had no signs of life, and immediately asked bystanders to help carry him down the mountain while continuing first aid along the way.

Mr. Liu was taken to Dasun Hospital in Dahu for emergency treatment but was unfortunately pronounced dead. His family was devastated upon hearing the news. Police reminded the public that hiking alone carries high risks and urged people not to climb mountains alone impulsively. It is advisable to go with companions, stay warm, and bring sufficient dry food and drinking water to avoid being unable to receive timely rescue in case of illness or injury in the mountains.
