To invigorate the economy and tourism of Wufeng District in Taichung City, the Wufeng District Office planned and built the “Wangyue Peak–Xiantang Hiking Trail,” which officially opened on the 4th. The trail, designed with a gentle incline, has its entrance near the national second-grade historic site, the Lin Family Garden, and links with the Zhongxinlong Hiking Trail to form a continuous circular route. Climbing to the top of Wangyue Peak also offers views of the night scenery across the Central, Changhua, and Nantou areas, and is anticipated to draw many hiking enthusiasts.
The “Wangyue Peak–Xiantang Hiking Trail” was officially inaugurated with a lion and dragon dance performance by Mingtai High School. Taichung Mayor Lu Shieu-yan, Mingtai High School Chairman Lin Fang-?, and Legislator Yan Kuan-heng were all present to witness this historic moment. Lu Shieu-yan noted that the trail is close to attractions such as the Lin Xiantang Museum, Wufeng Old Street, and the Taiwan Provincial Consultative Council, and hopes visitors will come to experience the local cultural heritage.
The “Wangyue Peak–Xiantang Hiking Trail,” which is 1.2 meters wide and 330 meters long, has an interesting backstory. The district office explained that Father of the Taiwanese Parliament, Lin Xiantang, once climbed to the highest point of this trail with Liang Qichao. At that time, Liang Qichao was inspired and composed the poem “On Wangyue Peak, white mist thickens; southbound crows and magpies lament the lack of branches; unaware of the slimming figure of Chang’e, she remains as graceful as ever,” leading to the naming of the trail.
The land surrounding the trail is owned by the Wufeng Lin family. Yan Kuan-heng specifically expressed gratitude to the Lin family for providing the land. Lin Fang-? also mentioned that the Wangyue Peak Sightseeing Trail is one of the 12 scenic spots of the Lin Family Garden, and its opening will effectively enhance local tourism development.
