Nantun District is located southwest of Taichung City. In its early days, it was the settlement of the Papora subtribe of the Pingpu people, known as the Mavaliq community. After the Qing Dynasty, it became an agricultural area, and by the late 1990s, it developed into a newly emerging commercial hub, with part of the Seventh Redevelopment Zone situated here. The area boasts rich cultural charm and beautiful night scenery. Spend a weekend with your family exploring Nantun—it’s a great choice.

Located on the Dajia Plateau, Wanggaoliao sits at a high elevation with excellent views. From here, you can overlook Taichung Harbor, downtown Taichung, and the area south of the Dajia River in Changhua—making it a great spot to watch the sunset and enjoy the night view. Locals often refer to Wanggaoliao as the “Ancient Fortress of Donghai.”

In addition to the historic Fude Temple and the third-grade historic site Wanhe Temple, Nantun Old Street is lined with old-style architecture, including traditional houses and old shops. The oldest of these date back over 200 years, while the youngest are around 50 to 60 years old. The classic charm of these traditional buildings makes the street perfect for a leisurely stroll and some photos.

The Correctional Education Museum is the first venue in the country to showcase both the achievements of correctional education and technical training, while also serving an educational purpose. It features an exhibition area highlighting the outcomes of correctional education and vocational training, a display zone on the history of corrections, a remote visitation center for families of inmates in central Taiwan correctional facilities, interactive photo booths, and simulated prison cells—making it highly educational.

Located beside the Zhongzhong Highway in Nantun, Taichung, in addition to spectacular rice fields, there is a century-old banyan tree. Known as the “Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree of Taichung,” it is also referred to by netizens as Taichung’s little “Little Boracay Avenue.” It’s like a beautiful hidden gem in the city. This field and sea of rice have been included in the urban planning zone to preserve this rural landscape.
