Christmas Tree Lighting with Romance: 15 Major Art Light Displays Including Tainan Art Museum

Tainan City - The 2019 Christmas tree lighting was set up at the Tainan Art Museum’s Second Branch, Xinying Cultural Center Plaza, Zahamu Park, and other locations. In addition, there were a total of 15 Christmas light displays across Tainan City to welcome the romantic Christmas and New Year’s of 2019.

The grand and heartwarming Christmas tree lighting ceremony kicked off lively at 6:30 PM on Sunday, December 1st, at the entrance plaza of the Southern Taiwan Museum of Art’s Second Branch. Following that, the Christmas tree at the Xinying Cultural Center will be lit at 6:00 PM on Saturday, December 7th, in the Xinying Cultural Center Plaza. In addition to the wonderful performances during the ceremonies, family-friendly challenge games and charity bazaars will also take place in the afternoon on the day of the lighting.


During the ceremonies, the city government has added an extra surprise Christmas gift — featuring internationally renowned tenor and winner of “The Voice of Holland,” Martin Hurkens, famous for his performance of “You Raise Me Up.” He will perform at both tree lighting events, offering the public a world-class musical experience.

The Tainan Art Museum light display area features a novel design inspired by the rose windows of medieval European Gothic churches and the concept of fractal glass, using the three primary colors red, yellow, and blue. Whether under the sunlight during the day or illuminated at night, it reflects different gradient light and shadow effects, resembling the sacred bouquet of flowers scattered from rose windows. Paired with the internationally acclaimed architecture of the Southern Taiwan Museum of Art, it will offer visitors a refreshing visual experience.

The Christmas tree in the Xinying Cultural Center light zone was jointly created by teachers and students led by a professor from National Yunlin University of Science and Technology. Named “Melody of the Four Seasons,” it uses silhouettes of Taiwan’s seasonal flowers, paired with the Four Seasons Concerto, and incorporates AR technology, allowing the public to select their favorite music or floral designs via mobile phone, immersing themselves in the rhythm of light, shadow, and the seasons.

Zahamu Park showcases a Christmas atmosphere distinct from tradition through indigenous totem designs. Coupled with uniquely themed Christmas tree light displays at Chi Mei Museum, Nanhua Shopping Center, Big City, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, these will add multiple dazzling tourist highlights to Tainan.
