Transportation
Since Semporna doesn’t have an airport, you can’t fly directly from Taiwan. You’ll first need to fly to Kota Kinabalu (KK), then take a connecting flight to Tawau, and from there, take either a bus or taxi to reach Semporna town. Flights from Taiwan to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah aren’t too expensive. Plus, budget airlines often run promotions, so if you book your tickets early, you can snag some really cheap deals!

One must-do activity in Semporna is diving. There are over twelve dive sites, and some dive shops also offer various diving courses and activities. Diving enthusiasts definitely shouldn’t miss out here. You might even get the chance to take photos with sharks or sea turtles!
Another must is a trip to Mataking Island. Mataking Island consists of one large and one small island. Between them lies a hidden sandbar that emerges during low tide. You can walk barefoot across the sandbar to the smaller island — it feels like walking along a secret path XD. It’s even more romantic when you stroll across it hand-in-hand with someone special.
Lastly, visit the Bajau Laut, the indigenous sea nomads of Sabah. They make their homes on the sea and mostly live on the islands around Semporna. They are kind, simple, and very hospitable.
