During the annual tung blossom snow season, tung blossoms can be spotted in Hakka villages across Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, and Changhua, while the mountainous city of Miaoli features verdant hillsides adorned with patches of white flowers. It is also the primary site for the Executive Yuan’s Council of Hakka Affairs’ Tung Blossom Festival. Shangri-La Resort in Miaoli, with its beautiful tung blossom scenery, amusement facilities, performance programs, and traditional Hakka villages, among other outstanding advantages, was chosen as the main venue for the opening ceremony of this year’s Tung Blossom Festival. The resort has launched a specially themed “Tung Joy Festival” event, which differs from past celebrations that focused mainly on traditional Hakka performances. This year’s program includes cartoon-themed shows, glamorous beauties, lavish musicals, and magic spectacles to bring extra cheer to visitors while they admire the blossoms.
During the tung blossom season, the tung blossom trails and Hakka villages around Shangri-La are almost entirely covered in snowy-white blooms. Fallen petals create a floral carpet on the ground. Strolling along the park’s pathways allows visitors to cleanse their body and mind with phytoncides, making it the perfect stress-relief remedy. It’s also the peak season for fireflies, as yellow-spotted and black-winged fireflies dance romantically among the tung blossoms, resembling a natural fireworks show. The vibrant ecological scene adds to the beauty of late spring evenings. Visitors are encouraged to take an outing to Shangri-La Resort for a “tung blossom joy” holiday.
The “Shangri-La Tung Joy Festival” is specially designed to foster parent-child relationships. The event runs from April 24 to June 20 and includes: a visually stunning “Supreme Magic Show” by world-renowned magician Paul, a dazzling “Tung Blossom Fairy Musical,” and appearances every Saturday and Sunday by the ultra-popular cartoon character “Mama and Mikan” from “We Are a Family” to join children and adults in celebrating tung blossom joy. The resort also offers a variety of exciting parent-child rides that can be enjoyed free of charge.
In addition to admiring tung blossoms and enjoying performances, Shangri-La Resort has launched special “Tung Joy” discount packages for the event. From now until the end of the campaign period, visitors who purchase tickets at FamilyMart can enjoy the Tung Joy price of just NT$299 per person.
