On November 1, the two-day China Tourism Conference and Hami Tourism High-Quality Development Forum opened in Hami, Xinjiang. Themed “New Concepts, High Quality,” the forum was hosted by the Eastern Tianshan Cultural Tourism Investment Co., Ltd. of Hami, Xinjiang, and organized by Nianjia Travel and Beijing Zhihui Cultural Tourism Communication Co., Ltd.

Policy guidance stimulates major tourism development
In 2019, the General Office of the State Council and the Party Committee and People’s Government of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region issued important documents on consumption and tourism, marking the advent of a new era of major development for the culture and tourism industry. The cultural and tourism industry in Xinjiang is also set to embrace new opportunities.
Hami, as the eastern gateway to Xinjiang, the hometown of Hami melon, and the youngest prefecture-level city on the Silk Road Economic Belt, has encountered a prime opportunity for tourism development under the guidance of the “Tourism Revitalizes Xinjiang” strategy. With abundant tourism resources, a convenient transportation network, and a standardized service system, Hami is continuously advancing from a city rich in tourism resources to a strong tourism economy.
Top-level planning defines a new direction for tourism
Since the beginning of this year, to implement the important decisions and deployments of the Autonomous Region Party Committee regarding the high-quality development of Hami, establish Hami as a center of Xinjiang’s tourism culture, and promote the tourism industry as a people-benefiting sector that drives high-quality development and sustains income growth, Hami has proposed multiple measures to advance the high-quality development of its tourism and cultural industries. These include actively formulating supportive policies for cultural tourism development, advancing the Toilet Revolution, improving tourism infrastructure, enhancing service standards, intensifying promotional marketing efforts, and innovating cultural development.
Experts share insights to explore new tourism ideas

This forum invited industry experts and scholars such as Jin Zhun, Secretary-General of the Tourism Research Center at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and Liu Zhaohui, Founder and CEO of Zhihui, who systematically elaborated on the transformation and upgrading of the tourism industry and the integration of culture and tourism from a macro perspective. Using real-world cases, they introduced successful models and opened up new channels for “tourism+” development. Drawing on historical and cultural insights, they also explored new models for tourism marketing.
Collaborative efforts boost tourism quality
Experts and scholars conducted a systematic analysis of the development of Hami’s tourism industry. Focusing on establishing Hami as a center of Xinjiang’s tourism culture and a hub for tourism in the region, and leveraging Hami’s advantages as the “first stop into Xinjiang” and a “microcosm of Xinjiang,” they promoted flexible and innovative tourism marketing strategies. United in vision, pooling strengths for development, and working together to ride the wave of cultural tourism, they collectively initiated a new “grand cultural tourism” industrial framework for the high-quality development of Hami’s tourism industry.
