A 57-year-old man surnamed Chan went missing while hiking at Liangshan Waterfall in Majia Township, Pingtung County yesterday. Rescue teams in Pingtung found him this morning, but he had already passed away. Typhoon Soudelor has claimed another life.
The man, who lived in Kaohsiung, reportedly hiked at Liangshan Waterfall on weekends. Although it was typhoon season, the weather in Pingtung was not severe yesterday. The man set out for the waterfall around 5 p.m. as usual but failed to return home that evening.
His family lost contact with him and reported the case to authorities at 10 p.m. last night. Police and firefighters began searching the mountain but found no trace of him by 1:35 a.m. this morning, so they temporarily suspended the search. At 5:10 a.m., a team of 25 rescuers equipped with diving gear resumed the search.
At 6:29 a.m., the man’s body was found at the third waterfall of Liangshan. He showed no signs of life. 1020714
