Taichung not only boasts beautiful wetland sunsets but also many dreamy flower seas. Here are six nature-themed spots where you can go for a weekend getaway to take amazing photos and heal a bit.

Located next to the flower sea at the Central Sightseeing Flower Market in Houli, Taichung, there’s a hidden cosmos field. Vast fields of cosmos flowers are tucked away in the farmland, with the uniquely shaped Huoyan Mountain in the distance. The distinctive colors and majestic mountain shape, set against the swaying pink cosmos at the foot of the mountain, create the most stunning winter scenery this year.

Situated in the Dajia District, the Great Wall Hiking Trail is located in the southwest side of the Dajia Mountain Plateau within a protected forest area. Dubbed the “Great Wall,” the trail earned its name due to its winding path that resembles the ancient structure. The one-way hike takes about an hour, with beautiful tree-lined scenery and lush flowers on both sides. Gazing out at the emerald hills, you’ll enjoy the bright and beautiful views of the Dajia Hills.

The Dakeng Scenic Area in Beitun, Taichung, is an important leisure destination for locals to go hiking and enjoy nature on weekends. It currently has 12 hiking trails, spanning approximately 15.6 kilometers in total. Each trail has its own unique features and varying levels of difficulty. The trails that stretch along the mountain ridges seem to extend infinitely, requiring not only ample physical strength but also courage. The full hike takes about two hours.

Gaomei Wetlands, located on the southern side of the mouth of the Dajia River in Qingshui, is a highly popular attraction both domestically and internationally. Spanning 1,500 hectares, this richly resourced wetland features meandering wooden boardwalks set against endless wetlands. The view of water and sky merging at high tide creates a mirror-like landscape that feels like something from heaven.
