A man in New Taipei City this afternoon fell into a valley off a cliff at the summit of Shisunjian in Pingxi District. As manual rescue was not possible, a helicopter hoist operation has been requested.
The New Taipei City Government Fire Department stated that the hiker, a man around 60 years old, was sitting by the roadside to rest at around 1:30 p.m. on the summit of Shisunjian in Pingxi District. Suspected slippery conditions due to recent rainfall, he accidentally slipped into a 10-meter-deep valley.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and used ropes to rappel down into the valley for the rescue, but due to the steep, near-vertical 90-degree cliffs, it was determined that manual extraction was not feasible. The fallen hiker’s vital signs were stable. The fire department requested a helicopter for hoisting and dispatched two fire squads and a battalion to assist. 1030510
