Female passengers can feel more at ease when taking the high-speed rail. High-speed trains will introduce “female-only” restrooms to provide a more comfortable and friendly experience for female travelers. The configuration of restrooms in the carriages has been specially adjusted, with each train featuring 5 “female-only” restrooms. The ratio of restrooms available for male and female passengers is 1:1, reflecting attention to passenger needs and a continued commitment to service quality improvement.

Each Taiwan High Speed Rail train is equipped with a total of 17 restrooms (located in the odd-numbered carriages 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11). With the introduction of “female-only” restrooms, except for carriage 7 which will retain 1 accessible restroom and 1 unisex restroom, the restrooms in carriages 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11 will be adjusted from the original setup of 1 male-only and 2 unisex restrooms to 1 female-only, 1 male-only, and 1 unisex restroom.
According to research and statistics, women take longer to use the restroom and do so more frequently. To reduce waiting times for passengers and avoid the awkwardness of female passengers encountering male passengers upon exiting the restroom, Taiwan High Speed Rail conducted restroom adjustments on its trains on the 20th and 21st, introducing the “female-only” restroom service across all 30 train sets.

Following the introduction of female-only restrooms, female passengers have access to 12 restrooms (5 female-only, 6 unisex, and 1 accessible), which is the same number as those available for male passengers (5 male-only, 6 unisex, and 1 accessible).
