Two hikers at the Dasyueshan high-altitude lake were rescued by a Black Cat helicopter today due to altitude sickness and a sprained ankle. Since one of them was the team leader, all six members of the group were evacuated.
The Chiayi Air Force Base stated that they received a rescue notification from the National Search and Rescue Center in the morning. Hikers near the Dasyueshan high-altitude lake in Yushan National Park reported cases of altitude sickness and an ankle injury, preventing them from continuing their climb. A Black Cat helicopter was promptly dispatched for the rescue.
When the Black Cat helicopter arrived at the target area, it was unable to land due to the rugged terrain. The two injured hikers and their four companions were then lifted aboard via hoist. After an initial assessment, the injured hiker surnamed Lin, who had sprained his ankle, and the man surnamed Wang, who suffered from altitude sickness, were found to be conscious with no visible external injuries. Upon successfully returning to the Chiayi base, they were immediately transferred by ambulance to a hospital for treatment.
The Chiayi Air Force Base noted that since the hiker with the sprained ankle, surnamed Lin, was the team leader, and with the leader injured and evacuated, the other hikers—who were unfamiliar with the climbing route—were at risk of getting lost, which is why the entire group was brought down together. 1030715
